FAMILY PLAYGROUP VOLUNTEER
(HIGH SCHOOL ADOPTEES)

Our adoptive family playgroups are looking for caring and responsible teen adoptee (13+) volunteers! Events are held on Saturdays throughout the year from 10am-12pm in our Manhattan office. We are looking for volunteers who, alongside Spence-Chapin staff, will participate in games, creative activities and open play with young adoptees (ages 0-8 years old). We ask that volunteers commit to attend most events throughout the school-year. Community service time is offered for volunteered time!

BECOME A MENTOR FOR
ADOPTED YOUTH

We are recruiting volunteer Mentors living in NY, NJ or CT for our Junior and Teen Mentorship Programs. Adult adoptees (21+) serve as Mentors to middle and high school students, engaging in monthly group activities and outings throughout the NYC area. The Mentorship programs empowers adoptees by creating spaces for kids to make new friends, talk about the topics that are important to them, while building their own adoptee community. Mentors serve as role models who can share their experiences as adoptees while encouraging mentees to ask questions, feel comfortable with their identities, and develop healthy self-esteem. The Mentorship programs are adoptee led and run, and include multicultural, educational and social outings, as well as a series of adoption forums. Contact us at 212-360-0279 or [email protected] to learn more.

Internships

Spence-Chapin Services to Families and Children offers internships to students that provide the opportunity to work with knowledgeable and experienced professionals on assignments critical to the organization.  Assignments can include social work, development, marketing, operations & IT, legal and compliance, post adoption records & resources.  The diversity of these roles creates a variety of opportunities for students to gain exposure to the work of a non-profit organization based in New York City that has been providing adoption services and adoption support for more than 110 years.

Interim Care Program

Our Interim Care Providers play an essential role in the work of our organization. No job is more important than caring for and providing a safe, stable, and nurturing environment for a child as his or her biological parents make a plan for the child’s future.

DONATE TODAY

Our programs are funded through donations from our community – your support allows us to serve every member of our community and ensure that we can find adoptive homes for children who need families.  Your help enables us to:

  • Find homes for medically fragile children in our Special Needs Program
  • Improve the wellbeing of waiting children through our Granny Program
  • Provide temporary care for children in the adoption process through our Interim Care Providers
  • Reduce financial barriers to find homes for waiting children around the world in Colombia, Bulgaria, and South Africa
  • Empower families through counseling, mentorship, and education programs
